ELSPETH HASWELL-SMITH, HEALTH COACH AND COUNSELLOR
Committing to your loved one in marriage is a life decision that requires one to ensure that they understand what they are entering into.
Understanding each other and the expectations of marriage should be well explored prior to committing to each other. Many aspects of life and compatibility should be explored to ensure a smooth transition into married life. One aspect I often see is conflicting health philosophies. Health is an important topic and while one individual enjoys maintains a healthy lifestyle it may not be as important for their partner.
Another point is healthcare providers and treatment for illnesses — one may maintain a allopathic view whereas your partner may hold a strong view in natural methods of treatment.
These differences in beliefs can come to crossroads when children are born or critical health issues arise.
Therefore it is important for each partner to understand and respect views on health and wellbeing, and if uncomfortable or challenged seek counsel in regards to exploring these differences to ensure there is reconciliation between these opposing views.
