If you have a spe­cial oc­ca­sion com­ing up, it’s per­fectly nor­mal to want to shed a lit­tle ex­tra weight to feel more con­fi­dent on the day.

How­ever there’s no need to re­sort to crash di­ets when sub­tle, daily changes to your nu­tri­tion and phys­i­cal ac­tiv­ity will get you re­sults.

The sim­plest way to im­prove your nu­tri­tion in the lead up to a big event is to elim­i­nate your dis­cre­tionary calo­ries.

“This in­cludes milky cof­fees, juice, soda, and the ex­tra glasses of wine, and de­creas­ing your meat by ¼ at each meal,” Ni­cola ex­plains.

“Re­place these with wa­ter, herbal tea and bulk your meals up with non-starchy veg­eta­bles or salad.”

Next, in­crease your phys­i­cal ac­tiv­ity by just 10 min­utes more a day.

“Be­ing more ac­tive doesn’t have to mean slog­ging it out at the gym,” Ni­cola says.

“Some fun ways to fit in ex­tra phys­i­cal ac­tiv­ity in­clude gar­den­ing, play­ing in the back­yard with the kids, or walk­ing them to school.”
