Surely this author was a hidden gem for many years — with a long and solid career in the publishing industry, Joseph Kanon has only come into his own as an author in the past several years.

But he has come into his own with a flourish!

Defectors is the tale of two brothers — publisher Simon Weeks and CIA defector Frank Weeks, who ran for safety behind the Iron Curtain in 1949 after being revealed as a Communist spy.

Now, 12 years later, the brothers are reunited in Moscow.

Superbly written, Kanon weaves a tale of distrust and intrigue, with the reader feeling as though they’ve taken the trip to post-cold War Moscow alongside Simon.

An unforgettable and thrilling read.
