Modern luxury at country mansion
TASMANIAN retreat Quamby Estate – owned by Virgin Australia co-founders Brett Godfrey and Rob Sherrard – has unveiled a new look after a major restoration. The final touches were put on the 10 guest rooms earlier this year after the homestead, golf club and restaurant were refurbished last year. The estate, near Launceston, combines modern luxuries with an eclectic collection of art and period antiques. The rooms have exposed hardwood Tasmanian oak flooring, airconditioning, marble or stone bathrooms with underfloor heating, flat-screen TVs, DVD players, and iPod and Bose docking stations. Prices start from $162 a night for a standard room.
