VALLEY LOOKS TO PURPLE PATCH
It’s three years away, but Victoria’s Yarra Valley – known for its world-class chardonnay and pinot noir – is set to get its first globally branded hotel. A new-build, 170-room hotel to open on the Maroondah Highway in 2021 will be the second in Australia to carry a voco sign, after Watermark Hotel & Spa Gold Coast which is set to open late this year.
As well as being a place to stay for large events such as A Day on the Green winery concerts, the hotel will have an on-site gin distillery, lavender farm, amphitheatre cut from natural ground, mirrored maze and a provedore serving and selling Yarra Valley produce. Accommodation will include 20 cabins.
Voco is a new informal, upscale collection of hotels being established globally by IHG whose other brands include Indigo, InterContinental and Crowne Plaza and Kimpton. In Queensland, InterContinental is set to take over management of Hayman Island next year, with the Whitsundays resort set to have a $100 million refurbishment after Cyclone Debbie last year. IHG.COM
