It’s three years away, but Vic­to­ria’s Yarra Val­ley – known for its world-class chardon­nay and pinot noir – is set to get its first glob­ally branded ho­tel. A new-build, 170-room ho­tel to open on the Ma­roon­dah High­way in 2021 will be the sec­ond in Aus­tralia to carry a voco sign, af­ter Water­mark Ho­tel & Spa Gold Coast which is set to open late this year.

As well as be­ing a place to stay for large events such as A Day on the Green win­ery con­certs, the ho­tel will have an on-site gin dis­tillery, laven­der farm, am­phithe­atre cut from nat­u­ral ground, mir­rored maze and a prove­dore serv­ing and sell­ing Yarra Val­ley pro­duce. Ac­com­mo­da­tion will in­clude 20 cab­ins.

Voco is a new in­for­mal, up­scale col­lec­tion of ho­tels be­ing estab­lished glob­ally by IHG whose other brands in­clude Indigo, In­ter­Con­ti­nen­tal and Crowne Plaza and Kimp­ton. In Queens­land, In­ter­Con­ti­nen­tal is set to take over man­age­ment of Hay­man Is­land next year, with the Whit­sun­days re­sort set to have a $100 mil­lion re­fur­bish­ment af­ter Cy­clone Deb­bie last year.
