SHE IS NOW considered a household name, but it was the Italians who first recognised the “supermodel potential” in Perth-born Megan Gale.

She kicked off her career in 1991 as a fresh-faced 16-year-old but, “Kate Moss was the model of the moment and obviously I look completely different to that,” recalls Gale.

Her break came in the late ’90s, when she did an ad for Italian telecommunications company Omnitel. From there Gale spent seven years working in Italy before enjoying a 13-year relationship with David Jones back home. She has since segued into fashion (founding swimwear label Isola); film (starring in 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road); and television (this week debuting as a judge for the 2016 season of Australia’s Next Top Model). “I doubt I would have had the same opportunities in Australia if Italy had not embraced me so much,” she says. “It changed my path dramatically.”
