A romantic jaunt to Queensland’s idyllic Orpheus Island.

There’s something magical about being on an island accessible only by helicopter. And there’s still time to plan a romantic trip to Orpheus Island, just a 30-minute chopper ride from Townsville, before Cupid arrives. Nestled in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef and home to a luxury resort (that caters to a maximum of 28 guests at a time), the island is a world away from the worries of the mainland. Crystal-blue waters, white sandy shorelines and hammocks galore make this a couple’s paradise not to be missed. Visit orpheus.com.au. Stephanie Squadrito

Design a six-course menu with the resident chef and enjoy it on the pier with an intimate Dining with the Tides experience. Swim beside green turtles and manta rays in the fringing reef or discover the giant clam nursery with a local snorkelling tour. Visit the Gwandalan Day Spa, meaning “rest and peace” in the local Aboriginal language, for a luxe relaxation session.

Take advantage of the complimentary minibar and settle into an al fresco bubble bath in one of the elegant waterfront suites.

Explore secluded bays and beaches on a dinghy adventure, complete with bespoke picnic hamper.
