DRINK IN A DIVE BAR
Remember that place you couldn’t remember going to? It was probably a dive bar. Dark, dingy, and invariably sticky, dive bars are a city’s under-appreciated late night gems. Try Sydney’s brown liquor dens like Frankie’s, Mary’s or comparative newbie the Ramblin’ Rascal Tavern, or Brisbane’s delightfully grungy Brooklyn Standard or Frankie’s Queensland cousin, Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall. While in Melbourne the vote is divided between old favourites like Cherry or next generation dives like The Beaufort or Heartbreaker. Two rules: don’t go in a suit – well, unless it’s a denim jumpsuit – and if you can’t remember if you had fun, check your Insta for all the evidence you’ll need to delete.
