ED’S LETTER

It’s the question that refuses to die: can women have it all? (It’s also the question that begs the follow-up, “Can men have it all?” but oddly enough that doesn’t get asked very often.) Former Governor-general Dame Quentin Bryce believes the answer is yes, women can have it all, but just not at the same time. “Remember, you have a long time ahead,” she tells Stellar of the advice she would give to the women of Australia. “It’s important to keep in touch with your professional life, but you can’t do everything.” It’s a sentiment echoed by today’s cover star, Lisa Wilkinson, who at one point considered giving up her job co-hosting the Today show because of the impact the hours worked by her and husband Peter Fitzsimons was having on their family. Insisting she should stay with the show, Fitzsimons quit his job instead – and later this month, Wilkinson will celebrate a decade in the highprofile role. So maybe, with a little teamwork, you really can have it all… All, that is, minus a decent night’s sleep.
