PLANNER 06 TV DETECTIVE FROM THE If you liked… Try… BIG LITTLE LIES LITTLE FIRES EVERYWHERE VAULT STREAMING, AMAZON PRIME VIDEO T HERE’S something familiar about Reese Witherspoon’s character in her latest booktosmall screen sizzler (and not just because she plays a former journalist). Just as she played in her role, as uptight super-mum Madeline Martha Mackenzie, the Oscar winner is back in this as another angstridden mother of four, Elena Richardson, whose luxe life is not buying her all the happiness you’d expect. Especially after someone torches her palatial home and the reason behind the arson attack begins to unravel. That’s where Kerry Washington ( comes in, as a shady single mum, Mia Walker, who moves into the neighbourhood and quickly enmeshes herself in the Richardson family and their troubles. She’s got secrets of her own, of course, and the race is on between the two women in a bid to expose and upend the other’s life. There’s also a few dysfunctional kids with issues of their own thrown in to add more intrigue (Lexi Underwood is impressive as Mia’s daughter Pearl). The writing is not nearly as sharp as Liane Moriarty’s in but it’s still incredibly bingeable and pulls you from one episode to the next over eight parts. Fun fact: not only did Witherspoon’s fi lm company, Hello Sunshine co-produce this series, she also chose the 2017 text by Celeste Ng for her popular book club. Big Little Lies BLL, HOMECOMING: A FILM BY BEYONCÉ STREAMING, NETFLIX LONGING for lockdown to end so you can get your groove on again to live music? Me too. So I decided to stage my own ‘couchella’ concert and revisit this epic from Coachella two years ago. It would have been enough for Beyoncé to turn up, twerk a little and throw in a Destiny’s Child reunion just for the fun of it. But of course she decided to make a statement with this film. The sound of a crowd losing their minds in the presence of such musical greatness was enough to get my pulse racing a little quicker and put a smile on my dial. Scandal) – Holly Byrnes Mum’s the word: Reese Witherspoon in LittleFiresEverywhere. comedy doco comedy THE KING OF QUEENS STREAMING, FOXTEL ON DEMAND 9 SEASONS KINNE TONIGHT ROAD TO NOW LOVE LIFE THE death of Jerry Stiller earlier this month sparked a million memes, with fans celebrating his hilarious work as Frank Constanza in the iconic comedy series. But for me, his role in Kevin James’ – as Leah Remini’s basementdwelling father, Arthur – was the perfect mix of Frank Constanza and Kramer rolled into one character. With more than 200 episodes of the suburban sitcom, there’s plenty to love and laugh over in homage to the late great funnyman. 9.30PM, MONDAY, 10 9.30PM, TUESDAY, ABC STREAMING, FROM WEDNESDAY, STAN Seinfeld ANNA Kendrick (pictured) stars in and executive produced this rom-com series, “which is about the journey from first love to last love, and how the people we’re with along the way makes us into who we are when we finally end up with someone forever.” It’s meets and stars Lesley Manville, Zoe Chau, Sasha Compère and Peter Vack.– TROY Kinne (pictured) has bounced around networks, but I’m glad he’s landed in a regular spot on 10, who gave him a more permanent shot after audiences supported his show during their inaugural Pilot Week (cancelled this year, as a COVID cost-cutting measure). His larrikin charm defies the myth that great Aussie humour is under threat – finding the right line between clever, contemporary material and not playing to dated stereotypes. CHRIS Bath (pictured) has really found a good home at the ABC – first on radio and now at the helm of this interesting historical doco, looking back over some of the key events which have put world politics on the path where we find ourselves today. Former PM John Howard, former foreign affairs minister Gareth Evans and other ‘players’ from the ’90s and beyond share their expertise and inside knowledge.
