NO PAYNE, NO GAIN

Sunday Herald Sun - - Sport -

Luke Wright was the Superman of last year’s Big Bash derby at the MCG, smashing 109 off 63 balls. But after six summers in Melbourne can the 31-year-old Stars hero pass his latest test, and become an honorary Aussie?

Sun or snow on Christmas Day?

Snow. I’m still getting used to Christmas Day being so hot. Once Christmas Day is over, I like it, because it’s done and you can get back in the sun, but I do miss the British version. AUSSIE RATING: 2/5

If a fly landed on your snag at a BBQ, would you still eat it?

Yeah. Even if I dropped it on the floor, I’d still probably take it on. So a fly, definitely. AUSSIE RATING: 5/5

Do you still glow pink on your first outing to the beach?

I’ve been coming for six years and if I could move here, I actually would — my wife’s parents are in New Zealand — but it’s just not been able to work out with our English summer being so long. It does feel like a second home, but I’m still pink every time I go out. And I go home just as pale. AUSSIE RATING: 1/5

Do you pack long pants for a trip Down Under?

I just put the shorts in. But I should know by now that I should put more trousers in for Melbourne. AUSSIE RATING: 3/5

Cold VB or a warm pint of bitter?

A cold VB every time. AUSSIE RATING: 5/5

Do you still think sharks are hot shots in the financial world?

No, we take the kids (Joshua, 5, and Olivia, 2½) to beaches and I’m well aware of the sharks so I just go out up to my ankles. I’m very scared of sharks. Although I swam with them once, in South Africa, but I was in a cage. AUSSIE RATING: 3/5

Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night and shouted “Bowled, Warnie!”?

I think while Warnie was playing with the Stars, I probably did quite a bit. And he probably did it to me in the nets quite a lot. He bowled me a lot. AUSSIE RATING: 4/5

Are you a “have a go, you mug”, or a “jolly good shot” type in the field?

Somewhere in-between. Probably more “jolly good shot”, I’d still say. Just. AUSSIE RATING: 2/5

What will be the Ashes scoreline next summer?

I think England will just nick it, 2-1. AUSSIE RATING: 1/5
