CHAMP HITS TOWN
SIX-TIME Australian Open champion Serena Williams has hit town and wasted no time in sharpening her wares on the tournament’s showcase court.
Williams, 35, crashed out of the Auckland Classic this week and headed straight to Melbourne, hitting Rod Laver Arena yesterday morning.
As temperatures in the Melbourne Park precinct hovered around 30C, Williams worked strongly under the watchful eye of coach Patrick Mouratoglou.
Should the American prevail, she will equal the alltime Australian Open titles record of seven, held by Australian Margaret Court.
The world No.2 said this week that she had been planning to “go back to the drawing board” following the shock and error-riddled loss.
Williams lost last year’s final to Angelique Kerber.
