Dimitrov eyes title
GRIGOR Dimitrov said he would leave no stone unturned to claim a first win over Kei Nishikori in Brisbane, knowing his schedule was clear until the Australian Open.
The Bulgarian seventh seed won 7-6 (9-7) 6-2 to end the title defence of top seed Milos Raonic last night.
Dimitrov will battle fellow first-time Brisbane International finalist and world No.5 Nishikori for the trophy tonight.
“It’s the final. I’m not playing anything next week, so for sure I’m going to get out there and just leave it all (on the court),’’ he said.
Earlier, US Open champion Stan Wawrinka played down an ankle complaint suffered in his 7-6 (7-3) 6-3 semi-final loss to Japan’s Nishikori, saying he was not concerned about it.
“No, I don’t think so. Just something with my ankle but nothing special,” Wawrinka said. “Today I had some little pain, but that didn’t affect my game today.”
