Mall victim’s face repeatedly slashed

Sunday Herald Sun - - News - ANNA-LENA JANZEN

A MAN found fatally injured in a suburban shopping centre carpark had “repeated slashings” on his face.

Police have only confirmed he sustained serious head injuries after being found in front of a lift at the Westfield Doncaster complex early on Friday.

It has been suggested the victim was known to police but investigators won’t comment on the case.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said: “The investigation is ongoing.”

After being cordoned off by police on Friday, the carpark has since reopened, but many shopping centre workers were on alert yesterday.

Barber shop worker Grant Greenland said the centre was unusually deserted when he came to work on Friday.

“It’s very creepy to know something like that has happened right here where I work and we all have very little information of what happened,” he said.

Police have not released any details of the victim.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit crimestoppersvic.com.au.
