Stalemate ends tour

Sunday Herald Sun - - Sport - BEN HORNE

DESPERATE attempts to try to resuscitate the Australia A tour of South Africa fell flat yesterday as cricket’s pay war drags on.

The boycotting of the tour 10 days ago was the most crushing moment of the saga, with its cancellation jeopardising Test aspirations of key players.

For that reason, there was intent from Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricketers Association to make a breakthrough for players to head to South Africa tomorrow for a shortened tour.

But not enough progress could be made and South African sources have told the

Sunday Herald Sun they have been informed there is no hope of the tour proceeding.

Australia is bracing for a Joe Root-led England in the vulnerable position of having key spots up for grabs. AUSTRALIAN seamer Clint McKay has returned the best figures by a Leicestershire bowler (5-11 in four overs) in the Twenty20 Blast as it won by five wickets over Worcestershire Rapids.
