Man, 97, hit by car
A DRIVER has been charged after an elderly man was struck and killed as he crossed the road in Melbourne’s southeast yesterday morning.
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives charged a 30-year-old Mitcham man with culpable driving and dangerous driving causing death. The 97-year-old pedestrian was struck while crossing Whitehorse Rd, towards Linsley St, in Box Hill shortly before 9am.
The Box Hill man was treated by paramedics at the scene, but died shortly afterwards.
The death raises Victoria’s road toll to 188.
