Man, 97, hit by car

A DRIVER has been charged af­ter an el­derly man was struck and killed as he crossed the road in Mel­bourne’s south­east yes­ter­day morn­ing.

Ma­jor Col­li­sion In­ves­ti­ga­tion Unit de­tec­tives charged a 30-year-old Mitcham man with cul­pa­ble driv­ing and dan­ger­ous driv­ing caus­ing death. The 97-year-old pedes­trian was struck while cross­ing White­horse Rd, to­wards Lins­ley St, in Box Hill shortly before 9am.

The Box Hill man was treated by paramedics at the scene, but died shortly af­ter­wards.

The death raises Vic­to­ria’s road toll to 188.

The driver has been bailed to ap­pear at Mel­bourne Mag­is­trates’ Court to­mor­row. CRIME STOP­PERS ON 1800 333 000 crimestop­
