US eases our path

Sunday Herald Sun - - News -

THE Socceroos are in line for a likely World Cup qualifying playoff date with Panama or Honduras should they get past Syria on Tuesday night.

The US pounded Panama 4-0 yesterday, smoothing the way for Ange Postecoglou’s men, who will likely avoid a challenging tie with the Americans for a spot at Russia 2018.

If successful against Syria, the Socceroos will meet the fourth-placed team from CONCACAF.

The US win lifted it to third with 12 points and left Panama (10 points) in fourth with one game to play.

Fifth-placed Honduras (nine points) has a game in hand when it plays secondplaced Costa Rica today.

But nothing will be confirmed until Wednesday morning, when the final CONCACAF round is played.
