AN APPLE A DAY KEEPS THE BELLY AWAY
If belly fat is the enemy, soluble fibre is your best friend.
Scientists have shown you can reduce visceral fat – the fat that surrounds your internal organs and is associated with diabetes and high blood pressure – by upping your intake of vegies, fruit and beans, which are all high in soluble fibre.
A new US study has found that for every 10-gram increase in soluble fibre, visceral fat is reduced by 3.7 per cent over five years. Ten grams of soluble fibre is equal to two small apples, one cup of peas and half a cup of kidney beans.
