HALF OF KIDS MISS­ING OUT ON CAL­CIUM

One in two chil­dren aged nine to 16 don’t get the rec­om­mended amount of cal­cium, ac­cord­ing to a re­cent sur­vey, with 80 per cent of girls aged 14 to 16 not get­ting enough. How much is enough? Kids aged nine to 11 need 1000mg a day (about two glasses of milk and two slices of cheese); teens need 1300mg. Dairy is high in cal­cium. Green ve­gies, for­ti­fied ce­real and bread, salmon and al­monds are other sources.
