MY MUM IS STRONGER THAN I AM
Tennis champion and Berlei ambassador Serena Williams, 31, talks high heels and building a strong, powerful body
lot of people get caught up in crazy eating. My goal is to have a healthy lifestyle so I can live a long life. I don’t eat a lot of meat. I eat a lot of natural food – a lot of green stuff like spinach and cucumber. And I drink lots of water.
I’m working hard at being a tennis player – I don’t want to work hard by being on a crazy diet. I love planning what I’m going to wear – both on and off the court. Most people don’t get to see me any other time, so I want to look good when I’m playing.
If I look good I feel good. And I play better when I feel good. As a big-busted athlete, I know how important a good bra is. But you want them to be feminine as well as do their job. I feel so lucky to be working with Berlei. Accessories make or break an outfit. I always wear earrings and at the Australian Open this year I loved my headband and crazy shoes. You won’t catch me in trainers or flats unless I’m on the court or in the gym. I wear heels to training and at home. I love wedges, platforms – anything with a heel. I never leave the house without wearing a moisturiser with a sunscreen in it.
Resistance bands, which Serena uses in her workouts, help strengthen the smaller muscles around the joints, says b+s fitness expert Damien Kelly.
