We’re currently in a Mercury retrograde cycle, one of the few important astro-events that most people know of (along with Saturn return, new moons and full moons).

A favourite quality of this cycle is that it can be like a thread running through life’s fabric. One will often be connected to another – and not necessarily consecutively. For example, the job you start under one Mercury retrograde could be the job you quit under a later one.

So why does this cycle have a negative reputation? Well, Mercury is the Zodiac’s trickster (and the messenger of the gods) and when he’s going backwards, it can seem as if he’s testing our ability to keep our sense of humour in the face of annoyances.

But this cycle is great if you want to re-do something, be it writing, painting, teaching or whatever else. It’s said that Yoko Ono signed contracts under Mercury retrograde because it made them easier to renegotiate later.

As with all astrology, the idea is to use it for your benefit. Is there somewhere in life where you’d like to leave your options open? That’s something you could begin under Mercury retrograde.

Also this week is Valentine’s Day and a full moon, which will see emotions running high. Overall it will be a week of high romance for some and high drama for others.
