SHARE ORDINARY EVENTS TO BE MORE POPULAR

Just met a celebrity or been on an amazing adventure? The sad news is no-one wants to hear about it and sharing your experience may even come at a social cost, according to a US study published in the journal Psychological Science.

Researchers say the reason for this is we prefer to hang out with people who are like us, so sharing the details with those who haven’t had similar experiences is likely to make you feel ostracised. “We all appreciate experiences that are fine and rare, and [are] always eager to tell our friends. But conversations seem to thrive on more ordinary topics,” they said.

For the record, we’d rather take our chances and have the extraordinary experience!
