THE FIT COMEDIENNE

Sunday Mail - Body and Soul - - FRONT PAGE -

US actress Melissa McCarthy has always been admired for her bubbly personality and buxom physique. From playing the homely and sweet Sookie in Gilmore Girls to the hilarious Megan Price in Bridesmaids, the actress’s weight has always suited the characters she played. However, when she got cast in this year’s action comedy, Spy, she realised the role would be a physical challenge and began training with a martial arts instructor.

This revved up her metabolism and, coupled with a high-protein diet, enabled her to lose more than 20kg. Diet and exercise aside, she mostly credits her transformation to a change in mental attitude.

“I truly stopped worrying about it,” the 45-yearold says. “I think there’s something to kinda loosening up and not being so nervous and rigid about it that, bizarrely, has worked.”

Not only does McCarthy look fantastic, she also received rave reviews for her role in Spy and says she feels “amazing”.
