I’ve always been a bit of a scoffer of the February fasters. Not because I think ditching alcohol for a month a year is such a bad thing, it’s just that my birthday is in February, and these dry dieters can kill the party buzz when they’re refusing a glass of toasting sparkling or to partake of my fruity pavlova. But scientifically speaking, is a month of deprivation a good thing for mind and body? See page 4 for guidance. Talking deprivation, our gorgeous cover star, J.Lo, admits that her rocking bod doesn’t come easily – she’s had to put in the hard yards to ensure she keeps up the energy to work the stage and keep up with her twins. Read about her regimen on page 6. Enjoy! the outcomes of things that used to be fun,” Jordan Etkin, a professor at Duke University in the US, says.

Etkin found that people weren’t compelled to continue these once-pleasurable activities when they stopped measuring results. The answer? Leave the wrist bling at home when doing things for fun.
