AGE 40 WORK LIFE

Interior stylist specialising in children’s spaces at My Mini Abode, and promotions manager at BreastScreen SA.

CAREER HIGHLIGHT/BEST KNOWN FOR

Working with eminent stylist Megan Morton on a kids’ feature published in a special Fete Kids magazine issue.

I’VE LIVED IN MY HOME FOR ... 10 years. MY HOME IS ...

A 1920s semi-detached bungalow a short walk from the city.

I LIVE WITH ...

My husband Lachy, my son Max, 6, my daughter Lola, 2, and our kelpie cross, Lizzy.

I LOVE MY HOME BECAUSE ...

It’s a reflection of who I am and what I love.

BUT I STILL NEED TO ...

Travel, and whenever I come home I appreciate it even more. I love travelling but I’m becoming more of a homebody the older I get.

MY DECORATING STYLE

Oh, I love so many styles, it’s hard to pin one down. If I love something I will make it work in my home.

RECENT PURCHASE

A Freedom Furniture mug. I posted a photo of it to my Instagram and Freedom Furniture featured it on their feed. And Adairs Kids quilt covers.

I COLLECT ...

Cushions and baskets but not intentionally; it just happens.

FAVOURITE ROOMS

It would have to be my kids’ bedrooms. I designed them myself and they were a labour of love. Now Max is older, he is part of the decision-making process when we make design updates, so his room really reflects his personality and the things he loves.

HOME FAVOURITES

My new Olympus camera: I’m still very much learning how to use it but I love having a go. Max’s bed and our kitchen island bench: My husband designed and lovingly made them himself so it makes them so much more special. Our original 1950s Adelaide tram scroll: My husband inherited this special piece from his father and it holds pride of place in our living area.

I COULDN’T LIVE WITHOUT ...

My phone! And, of course, my family.

WHEN I GET HOME AT NIGHT, I ...

Try to juggle the dinner/ bath/bed routine with my sanity intact, then decompress from the day with a glass of wine and couch time.

AT WEEKENDS I LIKE TO ...

Catch up with family and friends over good food and wine.

CLEAN FREAK OR MESSY BESSIE?

Clean freak, without doubt.

WHEN I’M HOME, I LIKE TO COOK ...

Lots of salads in summer, comfort food in winter and a roast will usually feature on weekends.

FAVE CAFE/RESTAURANT/BAR

Peel St restaurant and Clever Little Tailor.

IN MY GARDEN, I HAVE ...

Lots of native varieties out the front, Sir Walter (buffalo) lawn, a vegie patch out the back and a middle-aged dog that still likes to dig holes.

WHEN I WAS A CHILD, I WANTED TO BE ...

A dancer … I idolised Madonna and thought I could get to her by being her back-up dancer.

SOMETHING YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE IN THE NEXT 10 YEARS?

I would love to be designing and styling children’s spaces full time.

DREAM HOLIDAY DESTINATION

New York or anywhere warm with a pool and a swim-up bar.

MY NEIGHBOURS ARE ...

Lovely and friendly.

IF I COULD AFFORD IT, I WOULD LIVE ...

Near the beach.

HOME MEANS ...

Family, and where I can be myself surrounded by all the things that make me happy.
