New era in train travel

TRAVEL aboard Aus­tralia’s iconic trains, The Ghan and In­dian Pa­cific, is about to get more ex­cit­ing.

From April 1, users will en­joy added ex­tras, on and off-train tours in­cluded in the fare, mak­ing for more mem­o­rable jour­neys.

Rail guestsin Plat­inum and Gold Ser­vice Cab­ins can im­merse them­selves more fully with a range of new, all-in­clu­sive tours shar­ing Aus­tralian ex­pe­ri­ences in style.

The Ghan and In­dian Pa­cific will pro­vide ‘‘ jour­neys of dis­cov­ery.’’

Guests will ar­rive into des­ti­na­tions at times more suit­able for ex­plor­ing and ex­pe­ri­enc­ing the re­gion, a Great South­ern Rail spokesman said.

Guests will also en­joy an en­hanced, on­board ex­pe­ri­ence.

The din­ing has been re-de­signed, al­low­ing guests more free­dom and flex­i­bil­ity for long lunches and in­ti­mate din­ners. The new menu will fo­cus on re­gional pro­duce and tastes, telling the story of the places the trains pass through.

Other en­hance­ments in­clude a per­son­alised check-in and wel­come.

Gold Sin­gle Cab­ins on The Ghan and the In­dian Pa­cific will be avail­able for about 10 per cent less than Gold Twin Cabin rates (per per­son). GSR is also in­tro­duc­ing an Ad­vance Pur­chase fare cost­ing up to 25 per cent less on Gold Ser­vice and 10 per cent less on Plat­inum Ser­vice book­ings made more than six months be­fore de­par­ture.

Al­ready re­garded as two of the world’s great­est train jour­neys, The Ghan and the In­dian Pa­cific will be set apart by their level of hos­pi­tal­ity, ad­ven­ture, dis­cov­ery and in­creased value, the GSR spokesman said.

On The Ghan, you can take an Ade­laide-Dar­win (or vice versa) trip of three-days and two nights for $2290 a per­son in a pri­vate Gold Ser­vice, twin­share cabin with en suite.

Trav­ellers will also en­joy off-train tours in Alice Springs and Kather­ine.

You can travel on the In­dian Pa­cific from Syd­ney to Perth (or vice versa) tak­ing four days (three nights), for $2420 a per­son in Pri­vate Gold Ser­vice, twin-share cabin with en suite.

Off-train tours in Bro­ken Hill, Ade­laide and Kal­go­or­lie are in­cluded in this In­dian Pa­cific trip.
