Holiday savings on track
TAKE an Australian rail holiday in the cooler months and get away from feeling trapped at home.
Seniors can take advantage of significant savings on package rail holidays by Australian Holiday Centre.
They are set out in the Our New Rail Holidays brochure, including destinations such as the Northern Territory, Western Australia, Queensland and the east coast of Australia.
If you travel on one of these holiday packages between June and October, you can save up to 20 per cent off the rail component of the Indian Pacific or Ghan.
Travel Centre manager Sonya Mewett says their Ultimate Australian Rail Holiday is now reduced by up to $547 for each senior traveller.
‘‘ If you like a holiday with no flying involved, then the Three Cities, Three Trains package is for you,’’ Ms Mewett says. It provides a saving of up to $129 a senior (twin share) on the rail component. Single travellers can save up to $117. Costs are outlined in the free brochure containing 16 holiday options.
Adelaide Holiday Centre also has released a new rail and sail itinerary, A Taste of Tassie, at $1895 a senior traveller, twin share in an inside cabin.
The package includes rail travel from Adelaide to Sydney on the Indian Pacific (gold sleeper), including all meals and drinks on board. In Sydney, passengers will have two nights in the Harbour City before boarding the Dawn Princess for a four-night cruise to Hobart, for A Taste of Tassie. On day five of the cruise, you sail into Melbourne and spend two nights before travelling back to Adelaide on The Overland in a premium seat. This is a one-off departure, leaving Adelaide on November 12.
Alternatively, you could head further north on Australian Holiday Centre’s Kimberley and Darwin Delight package, available from May to September.
It starts with a flight to Broome for three nights followed by two nights in Kununurra before heading to the El Questro, visiting Lake Argyle and cruising the Ord River. It also includes a three-night stay in Darwin and then boarding the Ghan for your return. This package costs from $4584 per pensioner, twin share.
Uluru to Kakudu is a new, 11-day tour option, starting with a flight to Uluru and taking a five-day Red Centre tour and a night in Alice Springs. You then take the Ghan to Darwin and have a two-day Kakadu and East Alligator River tour before flying back to Adelaide. This tour is priced from $3896 a pensioner, twin share.
