Clipsal takes 10th flag
HE Clipsal 500 Adelaide has won its 10th award in the Major Festivals & Events category at the South Australian Tourism Awards.
Edging out other popular established SA events and festivals, the Clipsal 500 Adelaide is continuing to prove its stature among Australia’s most innovative major events.
A fresh racing format and another massive concert lineup featuring Grammy Awardwinning artist Keith Urban underpinned another successful four days of actionpacked racing and entertainment this year, which attracted 273,600 fans through the gate.
In 2014, the Clipsal 500 Adelaide attracted 11,818 international and interstate visitors to the state.
This also delivered a $59 million expenditure to the SA economy, with $36 million of this representing new expenditure to the state that would otherwise not have occurred.
Clipsal 500 chief executive Mark Warren said the award further cemented Clipsal 500’s reputation as one of the most successful entertainment events in SA’s history.
“A lot of moving parts need to come together to successfully run the Clipsal 500 each year and to win this award for the 10th time in our 16-year history is a testament to the dedicated staff and the high-performance standards they’ve maintained over a long period of time,” Mr Warren said.
“One of the key ingredients in the success of the Clipsal 500 is the South Australian Motor Sport Board’s preparedness to innovate, reinvent and improve the event each year.
“The introduction of a revolutionary new twilight racing format and a world-class entertainment line-up featuring Keith Urban and our very own Guy Sebastian helped boost this event’s popularity and attract new audiences.
“On and off the track, our entertainment is continually evolving.
“Next year’s event will be the biggest to date with the Ferrari Asia-Pacific Challenge Series and Robby Gordon’s Stadium Super Trucks lining up on the grid for the first time.”
The 2015 Clipsal 500 — held over February 26-March 1 — also will be bolstered by legendary local band Cold Chisel returning to Adelaide for a one-off concert performance, with the remaining line-up of the gig to be announced later this month.
The Clipsal 500 Adelaide is one of several award winners who will now represent South Australia at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards in April 2015 in Adelaide. PHONE 13 28 49 OR VISIT WWW.CLIPSAL500.COM.AU
