Lights on for festive riverside

Sunday Mail - Travel/Escape - - SA NEWS -

THE famous Christmas Riverbank Display on the banks of the River Torrens at the side door of the West End Brewery starts tomorrow. The display has brought joy to generations of families as children marvel at some Christmas magic across the water. The display started as a clean-up project for the staff at the brewery back in 1959, where the operations team decided to enhance the gardens with some festive cheer. It started with Santa and his sleigh and grew with the addition of Vulcan in the 1960s and then a giant Ferris wheel, Moby Dick, Frosty and the water wheel house. Today structures have been created or enhanced with the newly developed Nativity scene, toy stack and the old brewery truck with Christmas tree, plus Vulcan and the Ferris wheel display new LED lighting. The 2014 Christmas Riverbank Display will run from Monday December 1 up to and including Wednesday December 31.
