WHEN I TRAVEL FOR WORK

Sunday Mail - Travel/Escape - - FRONT PAGE -

If the work is hard, I do as close to nothing as I can reasonably manage without starving to death in my hotel room. If I find myself with time off though, I visit local museums and historical sites, so I can learn a bit about whatever culture it is I’ve been lucky enough to experience. More than anything else I remember having really mediocre spaghetti bolognese in Italy and thinking the chef had dishonoured his country’s legacy and disappointed his mother. Great bread, though.

WHERE I GO TO UNWIND

There are Irish pubs all over the world and so long as there is Irish music playing inside, then I’ll be there to recover from whatever shenanigans I managed during the day.

THE ONE THING THAT’S ALWAYS IN MY CARRY-ON
