Lorde reveals her witchy ways
DOES the secret to teenage music sensation Lorde’s success lie in witchcraft? After the release of her acclaimed second album Melodrama, the 19-year-old New Zealander is about to embark on a gruelling world tour which hits Australia in November.
However the singer, who stars on the cover of October Vogue, tells the magazine that to help keep the creative juices flowing, she follows some interesting voodoo-style practices.
“I’ve got flowers and arrange them in a little way before I go on stage, or a few times I covered my hands in glitter, using my hands like little energy conductors. So I’ve been doing weird, witchy things,” she says. The singer, who counts Taylor Swift as a fan, also explained how her new music was all inspired by the end of a three-year relationship to photographer James Lowe. “The whole time I was writing it I was going out a lot, I was partying a lot, I was going to a lot of shows,” she says. “It was almost like I just want to make the stuff that I wanted to dance to on Saturday or whatever, which was a super new thing for me.”
“I think as you do grow up, you go through a break-up and be like: “I just don’t want to think about it and I wasn’t to drink tequila and dance to Nelly Furtado.”
