Crash girl fighting for life
A TEENAGE girl is still fighting for life after she crashed a stolen car at Old Noarlunga, while her passenger – who escaped the horrific smash virtually unscathed – has been charged.
Police said they spotted a stolen vehicle speeding more than 30km/h over the limit on Main South Rd at Hackham, just before 5am Friday.
Officers pursued the car and its two occupants – an Oaklands Park girl, 17, and a Brompton man, 24, – but it crashed into a retaining wall a short time later on Seaford Rd.
The girl was taken to Flinders Medical Centre with a severe head injury and multiple broken bones. Doctors operated on her yesterday and the Sunday Mail understands more surgery will be needed.
The teenager’s adoptive mother said she didn’t blame police for chasing the car.
“I’m not putting anyone at fault apart from the people in the car that were driving that made the mistake,” Crystal Rochester told Seven News. “But at the time you know she is underage and it probably scared her a bit, but yeah, I do believe the police were doing their job.”
The man was charged with breaching home detention bail and theft of a motor vehicle.
