BI THE WAY, HANG ON SNOOPY
SHE’S never been in a dogfight but Snoopy the Jack Russell terrier is ideally qualified for her job as head of security at Adelaide Biplanes.
The 12-year-old terrier has been turning up for work every day since she was a puppy and can sniff out trouble in an instance.
Owners Gaylene and Martyn Smith named her Snoopy, after the Peanuts character who flies a Sopwith Camel biplane in the cartoon strip, because she was so comfortable around people and planes.
“She’s very sociable and meets all the students and their families,” says Gaylene. “She lays on the decking in the sun waiting for them all to return safely.”
Such a responsible role deserves a big reward but Snoopy hasn’t asked for a rise in all her years and is content with the odd treat of a piece of dried duck.
Snoopy reckons she would be barking mad to work anywhere else than Adelaide Biplanes, based at the charming Aldinga Airfield, but Hollywood may yet come calling. “She’s in our Facebook video and there’s no doubt who’s the star,” adds Gaylene.
