Drugs lab found at win­ery

A WINEMAKER will face court to­mor­row charged over a se­cret drugs lab al­legedly dis­cov­ered on his south­ern sub­urbs prop­erty.

De­tec­tives swooped on Rocky Ridge Wines, on Plains Rd, at Sel­licks Hill on Fri­day.

Dur­ing the raid, po­lice al­legedly un­cov­ered a clan­des­tine metham­phetamine lab­o­ra­tory in a shed, found a short dis­tance from a pub­lic wine tast­ing area.

Of­fi­cers con­tin­ued search­ing the premises yes­ter­day and seized var­i­ous drug-re­lated items and a sawn-off shot­gun.

De­tec­tives ar­rested a man, 54, at the prop­erty.

Com­pany records show a di­rec­tor of the vine­yard is Ken­neth John Baker.

Neigh­bours told yes­ter­day of their col­lec­tive shock at his ar­rest.

Baker, of Sel­licks Hill, was charged with var­i­ous of­fences in­clud­ing man­u­fac­tur­ing a con­trolled drug, pos­sess a pre­scribed firearm and pos­ses­sion of an un­reg­is­tered firearm.

He was for­mally re­fused po­lice bail and will ap­pear in the Christies Beach Mag­is­trates Court to­mor­row.
