Feathers fly as teenager scoops award
WHILE most teenage girls are dreaming of wearing formal dresses, 16-year-old Ana Samaras is winning national awards for designing them.
The Year 10 Immanuel College student has taken out the formal wear category of the Apex Australia Teenage Fashion & Arts Youth Awards for the second year in a row. Ana’s latest winning gown, created from tulle and organza and adorned with ostrich feathers, took her 540 hours to make.
Modelling it herself, Ana says she hopes to turn her passion for fashion into a career. “I want to study at the London School of Fashion or at RMIT in Melbourne,” she says.
Ana also achieved the highest technical score of any entrant in the awards, which have four main categories – formal wear, casual wear, society and environment and wearable art.
