With Brew, I had a good look around the last 100m and couldn’t believe it.
I was able to really soak up the moment. It was a surreal feeling and I still remember standing up and taking in the whole crowd reaction. I was only 20 at the time, so it was all a bit of shock more than anything.
When I won my second Melbourne Cup, it really sunk in for me because it had been 16 years between wins and you get an appreciation of what is required to win this race and the effort you need to put in.
I hope I don’t have to wait another 16 years to win it again.
