GOOD horror films often have something interesting to say about the human condition or offer a social commentary. This Mexican genre flick about an impoverished family of cannibals who lose their patriarch and provider and have to rely on the children to bring home the bacon ( so to speak) certainly does that. First-time director Grau is not focused solely on gore, but on the morality of the situation and making his monsters human. He effectively builds the tension and when the nasty bits do eventually come, they pack quite a punch.
