Out of Office odyssey

Sunday Tasmanian - Tassie Living - - Dvds -

GIVEN it’s the brainchild of The Office ’ s Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, this was never going to be your typical travel series. With its grouchy host and unconventional adventuring, it’s arguably like no travel series you’ve ever seen before. It’s presented by their friend and comedy associate Karl Pilkington and follows the surly, hardly-travelled 30-something as he is sent off around the globe to exotic locales to give his frank take on the seven man-made wonders of the world – as well as being subjected to a host of other cultural craziness along the way. Set up from two very different points of view – Merchant hoped the experience would broaden Pilkington’s mind, while Gervais was in it for the laughs and just wanted him to absolutely hate it – this very different travelogue about a man out of his comfort zone and hating virtually every minute of it is top telly that’s funny, stirring and honest. Extras: The preview show and a recap show offer exactly what they suggest they should plus there’s a collection of deleted scenes from various episodes.
