Block goes

under the hammer

Sunday Tasmanian - Tassie Living - - Television - DEBBIE SCHIPP The Block, WIN, tonight, 6.30pm

THE Block’s biggest challenge tonight is blowing the 2 million viewer mark wide open – that’s its mission with the two-hour finale charged with ushering a bumper audience into checking out WIN’s new drama offering Underbelly: Razor.

The renewed interest in this renovation reality show proves it’s well up to the task.

Expect retrospectives of the season recounting the dreaded ‘‘ journeys’’ of the couples before we get down to the real task at hand, declaring the winner.

This year’s series features four couples including the youngest couple to appear on the show, Victorians Josh and Jenna, who’ve also turned out to be hot favourites. Then there’s the likeable pair Polly and Waz, experienced renovators Tania and Rodney and sisters Amie and Katrina.

Amie and Katrina came to attention when they bickered with tradies, but amazingly they’ve managed not to squabble with each other, despite the intense pressure of being on a reality show and the endless reno challenges.

Katrina said: ‘‘ You have to have Christmas together and Mum wouldn’t like us fighting.’’

Amie also agreed that Josh and Jenna were the ones to watch. ‘‘ They have a bigger house. It is that simple,’’ she said.

The couples will have been under lock and key since a top-secret auction last night of the finished homes. The winning couple will be the one whose home makes the most over the reserve price, which viewers will not know until tonight.

That winning couple will go home with the profit, and an extra $ 100,000 for being supreme renovation wizards.

The other three couples don’t leave losers. They’ll also receive any money made over the reserve.
