The man behind the thoughtful and stylish sci-fi flick Moon, British director Duncan Jones ( son of David Bowie), produces another modern genre gem with his second feature film effort. It involves an army chopper pilot ( Jake Gyllenhaal) waking up on a train in a different body, thanks to a government scientific program that enables him to live the life of another for eight minutes. He discovers he must stop a terrorist bomb from destroying the train. The intellectual scientific and philosophical plottings about parallel realities are wonderfully handled by Jones and the cleverness of the non-linear story is well-balanced with some genuine thrills and explosive action. Extras: ★★★★ Jones, Gyllenhaal and writer Ben Ripley provide an intelligent and nice-flowing commentary that reveals plenty about the production and their processes and, as a companion piece, there’s an extra fact track. There’s also a series of insight featurettes from the cast and crew – which are good but can get a bit gushy – and a series of general featurettes on the film’s science.
