WATCH­ING de­li­cious meals be­ing pre­pared by the saintly Nigella Law­son ( pic­tured) is a lit­tle bit like hav­ing your cake and eat­ing it too.

Tonight the do­mes­tic god­dess whips up an old- fash­ioned free- form tri­fle that most of you will be able to make with ingredients from the pantry.

And watch out for a great sim­ple pizza that the kids will love.

Just some of the other scrummy meals Nigella will dish up in this se­ries in­clude a sump­tu­ous roast seafood for some of her fam­ished friends af­ter work; a steam­ing bowl of pasta with salami for rav­en­ous kids; her sooth­ing ‘‘ mother’s praised chicken’’; a deca­dent choco­late peanut but­ter cheese­cake for the hun­gry hordes and a restora­tive Thai chicken noo­dle soup.

Nigella is a step above for two rea­sons: she re­fuses to take her­self too se­ri­ously and, more im­por­tantly, there isn’t a hint of re­duced- fat cream in sight.
