Dr Doo- too- little
TALKING animal flicks are normally best left for younger audiences and there’s a reason why they don’t get blended with the more grown- up and less kiddie rom- com genre – it’s just not a great fit. Such is the case in this big- hearted but flawed critter comedy that just can’t make the mix work. It takes place in a zoo where a popular zookeeper ( Kevin James) has just had his heart broken and is looking for a more financially rewarding job to become more appealing to the ladies. To stop him from leaving, the animals decide to reveal their talking ways and try to help him win back his girlfriend. There is some comedic spark, thanks to the animal business, but it only rarely catches and the little ones are likely to get pretty bored by the rest of it. Extras: ★★ ½ The hammin’ about continues in the extras with a lengthy gag reel, plus there’s a series of featurettes on creating the visual effects, a look at the film’s furry co- stars and a special behind- the- suit short on gorilla star Bernie.
