THE INBETWEENERS MOVIE ( MA) ★★★ ■

Stars: Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison, Joe Thomas Director: Ben Palmer Available: Now on DVD and BD TAKING your small- screen success to the big screen is the go- to move for defunct TV series these days. But if you don’t take the series magic with you, what’s the point? That’s what we have with The Inbetweeners Movie, which should have just been a long version of the fantastically grubby British comedy but instead ends up lacking the wit and charm. In it, the four mates have finished their schooling and head off for an international getaway full of drinking and hopefully a bit of ‘‘ action’’. Though they all meet babes, things don’t exactly go smoothly and much of their holiday is spent trying not to look like complete plonkers in front of them. While it won’t encourage non- fans to check out the series, it is still a bit of a laugh and not a bad way to send off the lovable losers. Extras: ★★★ ½ The one- hour long making- of is good stuff, there’s also a featurette on what the lads got up to while they were supposed to be rehearsing, nearly a quarter of an hour of deleted scenes, and the same again in bloopers plus footage of the London premiere of the film.

LOVABLE LOSERS: James Buckley, Blake Harrison, Joe Thomas and Simon Bird.
