Nat bonds over books
AS she prepares for her return to the judging panel on The X Factor, Natalie Bassingthwaighte is pouring her energy into her two great loves, marriage and motherhood.
Raised in Newcastle, Bassingthwaighte is firmly settled with her family in Melbourne.
‘‘ It’s [ Melbourne] where my heart is,’’ she says.
‘‘ My daughter was born here, I got married here and I feel a real connection.’’
The TV favourite and singer lives with husband, Cameron Mcglinchey, and their 20- month- old daughter, Harper.
Bassingthwaighte has embraced motherhood so enthusiastically that it is beginning to influence some of her career decisions.
She has taken a guest hosting role on kids show Cbeebies Story Time, a series that features celebrities reading popular Australian books for young children.
‘‘ Having seen a couple of the episodes from the UK series, I fell in love with it. I love reading stories, I love performing, and I think children’s books in particular always have something really poignant to say,’’ she says.
Bassingthwaighte says she and Mcglinchey love reading to their daughter.
‘‘ We’ve been reading to Harper since she was probably five months old. I think the first story we read to her was Little Red Riding Hood, and her eyes were wide open at every turn of the page,’’ Bassingthwaighte says.
‘‘ We read every day, probably five to 10 books a day, because she’s really into it. It’s a beautiful time we share together.
‘‘ I’ve also noticed that her language skills have gone through the roof, and the amount of new words that she learns and points to in the books. It’s beautiful to
