LARRY Emdur has reinvented himself.
THE 47- year- old is a ratings force on Channel 7’ s The Morning Show and so popular that Channel 9 reportedly tried to poach him last year to host Today.
Before The Morning Show, Emdur was the game- show king – host of The Price is Right ( 1993- 98 and 2003- 05) before a stint on Wheel of Fortune ( 2006).
When Wheel folded, Emdur rolled out a series of clangers including Celebrity Dog School and Surprise Wedding.
Now Emdur is returning to his quiz- show origins. He is hosting a rebooted version of The Price is Right, which will be paired with Deal or No Deal. Q: What are your memories of the original version of The Price is Right? A: Everything great that has happened in my life happened while I was working on that show – marriage ( to wife Sylvie) and the kids ( Jye and Tia) being born. Price A: When I finished Price the second time I went into a bit of a spin and said ‘‘ yes’’ to everything. I ended up on every commercial network and did a lot of rubbishy things. After my third or fourth axing in a row I thought, ‘‘ I need to chuck this in’’. Q: Was it a gamble hosting The Morning Show? A: The Morning Show represented a fork in the road for me. I didn’t know if I could do it or if the Australian public would believe me in that role. I am humbled by the way it has unfolded. Q: Any trepidation about hosting a game show again?
