A weird mob

Sunday Tasmanian - Tassie Living - - Television 17 - DEBBIE SCHIPP DUMB, DRUNK AND RACIST, ABC2, Wednesday, 9.30pm

EPISODE five of Joe Hildebrand and the Indians versus the dumb, drunk and racist heads to country Australia.

Shot on location in India and across Australia, Dumb, Drunk and Racist puts its Indian protagonists smack bang in the middle of passionate debates and immersive experiences that could change their opinion of Australia forever.

Are we really beer- swilling, racist bogans, or are we simply misunderstood?

In this episode the Indian visitors get a taste of a rodeo, dodgem cars and dagwood dogs at the Allora Show and Gurmeet falls in love with ‘‘ the first place in Australia anyone has come up to me and said hi’’. Shame on us city folk. Then it’s on to Mount Isa in pursuit of a real, live bogan – though it seems they’re in short supply. Everyone knows one, but it takes a fair search of the street and a footy field before they actually find one.

And forget the bogan – Gurmeet is far more unsettled by meeting a lesbian couple raising four kids in Brisbane and by the time he has witnessed a good ol’ Aussie hen’s night, he’s horrified.

CULTURE SHOCK: Radhika, one of the travellers from India. Picture: ABC
