IRVINE WELSH’S ECSTASY ( M)

Sunday Tasmanian - Tassie Living - - Dvds -

What was fresh and exciting about Danny Boyle’s 1996 adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s Trainspotting comes across as old hat and dull in this druggie drama about life and love on and off drugs. Director Rob Heydon doesn’t have a good grasp on the material, which follows an ecstasy enthusiast and small- time smuggler who starts to reconsider his path when he falls for a recently heartbroken woman looking for a connection. Arriving a decade or so too late, the love story is the only aspect that gives it life and even that doesn’t reach any real highs.
