Iron Mike

against the world

Sunday Tasmanian - Tassie Living - - TELEVISION -

BEFORE the opening credits have stopped rolling, Mike Tyson has his first knockout.

And the hits keep coming as the former heavyweight champion of the world ( pictured) stares at the camera and explains his bizarre life.

Director James Toback presents the story of Tyson, as told by Tyson, about how it has always been him against the world, about the people that dragged him from the streets, about how his biggest asset has always been his legendary punch.

Tyson delves into his shocking childhood and life as a boxer with humour and brutal honesty. This is the most frightening and flawed boxer of the modern era stripped bare. At times he fights back tears or shakes with rage.

While controversy has shadowed much of his success, Tyson is still considered a legend in his sport and an international athletic icon.

He is a unique figure in the sporting arena, a man who rose from the most debased circumstances and soared to seemingly unlimited heights, followed by destruction generated by his own hubris.

TYSON, SBS ONE, Sunday, 9.30pm
