More than you’d expect

Sunday Tasmanian - Tassie Living - - DVDS - WITH CRAIG MILLER

SO what to expect from a movie spawned from the self- help shelf of bookstores? Well, being inspired by the multimillion selling pregnancy guide of the same name it’s obviously going to be thin on plotting. And because it’s a Hollywood ensemble romcom it’s predictable and superficial, but surprisingly there’s some genuine warmth to it too. With the book covering far too many pregnancy anecdotes for just one couple to face, the film sensibly takes up the plight of a number of mums- tobe, all who deal with their own issues about impending parenthood. No two pregnancies are alike you know. There’s a Hollywood reality TV star ( Cameron Diaz), a baby- obsessed writer ( Elizabeth Banks) and a photographer ( Jennifer Lopez) who plans to adopt. Like kids themselves can be, this is all over the place but there are some decent chuckles to be had despite the manufactured production.

Extras: ★ ½ Just the one featurette which has snippets of the book’s author Heidi Murkoff and the major cast and crew members chatting about the book, production and raising children.
