NUTPATCH CHOCOLATES

Sunday Tasmanian - Tassie Living - - TASTE -

2950 Channel Highway. Open 10am to 5pm Friday to Wednesday and from noon on Thursdays. 0428 870 891 John Zito ( pictured) is celebrating the first anniversary of moving his nougat and chocolate business from his house to a small retail outlet, Nutpatch Chocolates, in Kettering. In the same week, 1.5 tonnes of chocolate landed on his door. That’s an awful lot of chocolate to be tempered and hand crafted by him and his apprentice, Sarah Black, into what must be the best and most imaginative range of sweet Christmas indulgences in the state. They will have everything from kids’ Chocogang pandas, frogs, ducks, fish and tortoises to 600cm- tall chocolate Father Christmases, small and large chocolate Christmas trees and chocolate ball decorations, red and green versions of Zito’s famed nougat, made from his own hazelnuts, chocolate postcards, skiing and snowboarding Otto and Speedie in chocolate and traditional Advent boxes with chocolates. There’s also the usual selection and gift packs of their exquisite filled and moulded chocolates. Only the nougat is available at Common Ground in Salamanca, but the drive to Kettering is worth it.
